This fabulous program is facilitated by counsellors Marilyn Green & Genevieve Stonebridge.
Marilyn Green, MA (she/her) (marilyngreencoaching@gmail.com)
I have worked in the world of education for the past 31 years as a secondary teacher, counsellor, and district consultant. I am also a Martha Beck trained life coach and have run a life coaching practice since 2018 that helps people free themselves from the expectations of others and society to live a life that is authentically aligned with who they really are. I help people find joy, peace, contentment and true purpose. Over the past 10 years, I have been on a learning journey around self care that has completely transformed every part of my life, from career, to relationships, to health.
Today, I live a life I truly love! Collaborating with dear friend and ‘kindred spirit’ Genevieve in this program is a dream come true for me.
Genevieve Stonebridge, MA, RCC (she/her) (stonebridgecounselling@gmail.com)
I have worked in healthcare as a counsellor for over 10 years, and believe self-care is integral to my ability to be of service and enjoy life. Practicing self-care has been a lifelong journey of mine, and, at times, a difficult one. At 18 years old, I was diagnosed with cancer. Facing my mortality allowed me to realize the importance of taking care of myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. As I became intentional about integrating self-care practice into my life, I experienced how hard it can be to find a balanced approach, which I feel I have now found. In my role as a counsellor, I am passionate about helping others find their own authentic self-care and creatively exploring ways to support themselves. I am trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and bring mindfulness, creativity and other therapeutic modalities to the program.
I am thrilled to collaborate with my longtime friend and mentor Marilyn for this program. I hope you will take away some new self-care skills and insights, find gentleness for yourself, and maybe even have some laughs along the way, all the while remembering: YOU MATTER.

Session Topics:
What is Burnout & What is Authentic Self-Care?
We welcome the group and begin creating community and group safety. We define the terms burnout and self-care and provide a tool for participants’ to reflect on their personal level of self-care, which will will utilize throughout the course.
Listening to your Body
We present the science of the stress response and the impact of chronic and toxic stress. We explore barriers to self-care, the window of tolerance and finding new ways to listen to our bodies.
How You Think Matters
We explore cognitive behavioural theory and how our thoughts influence our feelings, body sensations and behaviours. We bring awareness to the fact that when we shift our thought patterns we can positively impact our wellbeing.
Befriending your Emotions
We delve into the what, why and how of emotions, and how emotional wellbeing is integral to our self-care and mitigating burnout. We discuss the reasons why it is sometimes hard for us to be with our emotions and we begin the practice of welcoming them.
Self-Compassion & Permission
We share the components of self-compassion and why it is essential to our wellbeing. We discuss the reasons why giving ourselves permission for self-care is so difficult.
Resilience & Boundaries
We learn about the science and practices of resilience, and how it is foundational to our wellbeing. We discuss why boundaries are so difficult and how to overcome that to create and sustain them.
Gratitude & Connection
We contemplate the power of authentic gratitude, how it can give meaning to our lives and connect us to ourselves and each other.
Creativity & Continuing Self-Care
We wrap up the group with joy and creativity, exploring the science of play and how it builds our resilience. We leave participants with hope and a plan for their future health, knowing self-care is health-care.

Jon Kabat Zinn’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Dr. Kristin Neff & Dr. Chris Germer’s Self-Compassion
The research of Francoise Mathieu
Dr. Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski’s book: Burnout.
And much much more!
-
Participants will be invited to contribute with their voices as much or as little as they feel comfortable. The chat function can be a safer way to contribute as well. The bottom line is we just want you in the zoom room for the learning experience. We will ask you to have your camera on to help create group connection.
-
It is totally normal to feel nervous about being in a group. Marilyn and I have had a lot of experience facilitating groups (both zoom and in person). We create a safe, relaxed, inspiring and humorous environment (if we may say so ourselves :) ). Please reach out to us directly with any specific concerns and we will aim to make the group as inclusive and safe as possible for you.
-
No, this is a psychoeducational group. This means that we will use theory, discussion, and practice to shift the ways we think about self-care and add to the collective tool-box for self-care.
-
Through our personal experiences with burnout and supporting others we see there is a need to have open conversations about this very real experience of burnout. And we want to provide tools and information to create real change for people.
-
We are limiting the group size to a maximum of 20 participants to create a more intimate group experience.
